The Hunt for Red October is based on another Tom Clancy novel with the same character, Jack Ryan. In this film, Ryan is played by Alec Baldwin who goes up against Sean Connery in the role of a Russian super sub captain trying to defect to the United States to prevent a nuclear war. The film is filled with well choreographed action and mind boggling plot twists.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is based on a novel by John Le Carre by the same name. This is one of those subtle spy films which focus more on the investigation and subterfuge than action and guns. The film captures the original tone of the Carre novel very well and will appeal to those spy film fans who like their films to be closer to how real spies operate.

This is the film that set off a whole new franchise that is successfully churning out sequels to this day. The series and the film’s lead is Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, who usually takes up those missions that are deemed impossible. While the major draw of this film is the action and the special effects, there are enough twists and turns in the plot to satisfy the most demanding of fans too.
