There are mainly two ways through which Hollywood treats spy films. The first is the realistic manner where they try to recreate the world of espionage as it is and the second is when they make it exciting with lots of action. #6 Clear and Present Danger

Clear and Present Danger is based on Tom Clancy’s character Jack Ryan. The film is about Ryan being trapped in a political maze consisting involving Columbian drug cartels. Since his own government is involved by sanctioning illegal raids, Ryan has to go about unveiling the mystery of who is behind it all. Jack Ryan in this film is played by Harrison Ford.

#5 The Manchurian Candidate

This film is another political thriller consisting of foreign spies being sent into America. The film is the perfect example of great acting from Denzel Washington who plays the role of a soldier trying to recall his memories of war which may have been brainwashed by some people. He is pitted against his junior from the war who is running for the presidency of the country.

#4 The Hunt For Red October

The Hunt for Red October is based on another Tom Clancy novel with the same character, Jack Ryan. In this film, Ryan is played by Alec Baldwin who goes up against Sean Connery in the role of a Russian super sub captain trying to defect to the United States to prevent a nuclear war. The film is filled with well­ choreographed action and  mind boggling plot twists.

#3 Skyfall

What Netflix spy movie list will be complete without, at least, one Bond movie in it? So, we give you Skyfall. This film is the latest in a long line of some of the most exciting and thrilling Bond spy films. In this film, the master of MI6, M’s reputation and life is attacked from the inside and outside. Bond, with his own history with M, arrives just in time to chase the bad guys and come out on top.

#2 Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is based on a novel by John Le Carre by the same name. This is one of those subtle spy films which focus more on the investigation and subterfuge than action and guns. The film captures the original tone of the Carre novel very well and will appeal to those spy film fans who like their films to be closer to how real spies operate.

#1 Mission: Impossible

This is the film that set off a whole new franchise that is successfully churning out sequels to this day. The series and the film’s lead is Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, who usually takes up those missions that are deemed impossible. While the major draw of this film is the action and the special effects, there are enough twists and turns in the plot to satisfy the most demanding of fans too.
